The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (2018)
Review by mianba0
This was something else. It was recommended to me by my best friend and if you're a Taylor Swift fan, this was the embodiment of The Lucky One. :P It's rather popular among Taylor Swift fans and there are quite a few references to her songs, I believe.
This book follows Monique, an author, who is interviewing Evelyn Hugo to write her memoir. Evelyn tells us about her whole life story and her truth behind the glitz and the glam of being Hollywood's biggest star, as well as her seven husbands. It's a compelling story about being a woman in a man's world set in the 50's to 80's and makes you want to root for her. Evelyn is a deeply flawed character who is self-aware, which stood out a lot to me. It was interesting to read a book with a main character like that.
There were so many parts of the book that hit really hard for me and you can't help but feel for the characters in the book who are so painfully human. This was my first time reading again in a very long time and it was a great book to choose. I don't normally enjoy reading historical-fiction but this was really so good :')
